High IQ Bass Gopniks.
DJ Shadow – Nobody Speak feat. Run The Jewels
Manchmal darf es durchaus auch Sprechgesang sein. Wenn die Bläser FETT sind.
Dean Town – Vulfpeck
How come I haven’t mentioned Vulfpeck before? Such an interesting band – their public personas, their branding, their music. Everyone in the band plays 3 instruments, except Joe Dart, their bass player, because… he’s got enough to do. Here’s Dean Town, my favorite track of theirs, written by Woody Goss, and an homage to Weather Report’s Teen Town:
Those 16th notes on the bass are hard. But it’s worth it to have all of Madison Square Garden sing along to your bass line:
That whole concert is worth checking out.
Ugandan Methods – Beneath The Black Arch
Erik’s earlier Modeselektor post reminded me of this lovely Ugandan Methods track:
Tightrope – Janelle Monáe
Deceptively simple, super catchy.
White Hoarhound – Alunah
Pagan doom rock with a catchy riff. The whole album is great.
Blackbirds Fall – Black Moth
Nice heavy rock.
Overtime – Knower
One of my favorite tracks by weirdo internet funk band Knower. All the musicians are great, but I particularly love Sam Wilkes’ bass work.
Bugseed – Chapter
Courtesy of Japanese beat maker Bugseed: one of those loops that I could listen to for a solid hour without getting bored.
DJ Koze – Illumination feat. Roísín Murphy
Hypnotic, soulful, mesmerizing: top shelf stuff.
